ABOUT US
The Liverpool Show Choir (LSC) is a ladies’ community choir that was set up in 2012 as the sister choir to the Manchester Show Choir. We love singing and making music together in a friendly and easy-going atmosphere, and our wide repertoire ranges from Musical Theatre to Pop, Gospel and Folk.
LSC has given concerts at the Anglican Cathedral, Everyman Theatre, Museum of Liverpool, Walker Art Gallery, Palm House, Cavern Club, the Bombed-out Church and at St George’s Hall for the launch of RISE, a campaign championing women. We have participated in LightNight Liverpool since 2016, Liverpool One Christmas Switch-on, 100 choirs for Youth and Music, the Tall Ships Regatta and we’ve sung at Alder Hey, the Sefton Park Bandstand, the Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon, Event City with ‘The Ideal Home Show at Christmas,’ and, as part of the celebrations for Sgt Pepper at 50, ‘Mr Kite’s Musicircus’ at Aintree Racecourse.
LSC relishes any opportunity to perform, but especially around Liverpool. To date, the choir has performed at the Philharmonic Hall with Richard and Adam, with Brian May in a selection of Queen Songs, as part of his ‘Born Free‘ tour with Kerry Ellis, and at the Liverpool Empire with Susan Boyle, during her tour ‘Susan Boyle in Concert’. We also featured as the backing choir in the ‘West End Women’ national tour of 2014 starring Kerry Ellis, Ria Jones and Joanna Ampil. Our most unusual performance to date, has been singing ‘Toll Again’ with Liz and Natasha from Atomic Kitten, filmed for an episode of ‘Joe Lycett's Got Your Back’. This episode, which aired on Channel 4 in 2020 featured our brave ladies, singing, whilst battling the wind and freezing January temperatures, on the top deck of an open-topped party bus, driving back and forth over the Mersey Gateway Bridge!
The Liverpool Show Choir is very proud to be an award-winning choir! In 2018 we were the winners of the Overall Best Choir at the St Bride’s Choir Festival, having won the ’Give it some Welly’ cup at the inaugural Festival the previous year.
2022 will be an exciting year for LSC, as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the choir in October! Throughout the pandemic we’ve continued with our weekly rehearsals on Facebook Live, but we can’t wait to be back together rehearsing in the same room, continuing the singing, fun, friendship, laughter and dodgy dance moves!
As our motto reminds us: Sing Yourself Happy! 💜

REHEARSALS
Rehearsal Information
Where?
Wednesday evenings are LSC nights! We rehearse in the school hall at Pleasant Street Primary School, Pleasant Street. L3 5TS close to Liverpool Lime Street and Central stations and there's free parking in the school playground.
When?
We rehearse from 6.45pm-8.45pm, with sign-in and refreshments from 6.20pm. Once a month we have an extra treat, our LSC Sunday rehearsal, which starts at 10.30am and finishes at 3.30pm. This extra rehearsal gives our ladies more time for singing, chatting and eating lots of home-made cakes. Watch out Bake Off!
Will I have to audition to join LSC?
You will never be asked to audition or to sing on your own in LSC. The emphasis in rehearsals is to have fun singing and to enjoy making music together as part of a group.
Do I need to read music to sing in LSC?
We learn our music by repetition, so there’s no need to read music, although if you do, that’s great! We have music scores and lyric sheets to help us in rehearsals which we read on our devices or print off. The music scores, lyric sheets and recordings are all available to our members on Dropbox, so you can sing along with the recordings whenever and wherever you like: kitchen, car, bath, garage or even on the bus!
Does LSC rehearse all year round?
The fun at LSC continues all year round, apart from 2 weeks at Christmas, Easter and 5 weeks in the Summer!
Rehearsal fees
Each Wednesday rehearsal costs £8.00 and Sunday rehearsals are £5.00
FAQs
Am I a soprano or an alto?
We have 3 sections in LSC; Terrific Tops, Magnificent Middles and Beautiful Bottoms, aka Soprano 1, Soprano 2 and Alto! Ros, our Musical Director will chat to you when you arrive at your first rehearsal and help you decide where your singing voice feels most comfy. In LSC, we love singing together in unison and many of our songs and medleys are in 2 or 3 part harmony.
Which songs do we sing?
At LSC we definitely love singing show tunes, ranging from legit to contemporary Musical Theatre. We also have in our repertoire, ballads, up-tempo, folk and pop songs. Ros arranges all our songs and medleys just for us, so they sit comfortably within our vocal ranges. At each rehearsal she helps us learn our music, so everyone feels confident they know how, when, where and what to sing!
Are performances compulsory?
We do have performances throughout the year in and around Liverpool, but these are completely voluntary, as are our rehearsals! LSC is a truly caring, friendly and supportive community and there is never any pressure on any of our members to perform.
Uniform
For concerts we wear purple T shirts and a colourful scarf which we have fun trying to tie before concerts! For outdoor performances, we also wear snuggly purple hoodies to keep us warm.
Social Events
We love socialising together almost as much as we love singing! We really enjoy our film nights and choir meals, especially at Christmas, and in July each year we celebrate our beloved LSC with an Awards night. We're also very lucky to have the Liverpool Empire and Everyman/Playhouse theatres close by, and LSC Theatre outings have included: Legally Blonde, Hairspray, Billy Elliot, Kinky Boots, Paint Your Wagon, Sweeney Todd, Calendar Girls and Les Misérables.

KIND WORDS
"I want to say the HUGEST thank you to you for performing on the bandstand at the Christmas Ideal Home Show. You were absolutely amazing and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did and that you will want to do it all again next year!"
- Becky S
"Thank you SO much to you and all the ladies for such an epic performance! The guests (and me crying with it being so powerful!) were completely in awe! Thanks so, so much!"
- Culture Liverpool
"The Liverpool Show Choir sang for Neil and Alexandra at their wedding and they sang beautifully. Leading them was their very creative and lovely leader Ros. They sang ‘A Thousand Years’ as Alexandra walked down the aisle and during the interval ‘Wonderful World’ and ‘My Life.’ After the Signing of the register, Alexandra joined in with the Choir, of which she is a member."
- Rev P
"I am so delighted to be part of Liverpool Show Choir. They are a fabulous group of ladies and singing with them makes me feel so good, it's like therapy!!"
"You invest so much time, thought and effort in making us sound like we do. LSC is such an amazing community to be part of. There's so much love, support and friendship in the group."
"Wednesday nights are the best, full of laughs and smiles with a fab group of people. Yes, we have all become friends and we enjoy every minute of it!"
"It was a wonderful experience for me and my family. Who thought Granma could sing? Both my daughters loved ‘Les Mis’ and cried. My mum loved ‘Electricity’ and my mum in law who has dementia sang along to the Beatles."
"Just wanted to say a personal thank you for all your hard work with LSC. Your enthusiasm and vitality have been exceptional, and you have encouraged us to give our best. We have certainly gelled as a choir and now have the confidence to go out and perform to the best of our ability."
"Performing ‘Thousand Years’ was pure 'hair on the back of your neck' time, it will stay with me as a standout performance. It actually felt like you were drawing the music from us and sculpting it with your hands, it was pure magic and very moving. One of those LSC moments when we are so much greater than simply the sum of the parts."
"’Les Mis’ always gives me goosebumps, but today it took on a life of its own & the emotion was a palpable presence. My legs were shaking when we finished and I truly believe, as the judges said, we do sing for each other."
"I loved today. It was such fun and I was delighted that my first performance went so well. Thank you so much. It was a very special day for me."
I am still following LSC online but ‘lurking’ in the background. Leaving LSC has been hard as it’s been part of my life for over 7 years. It has given me some wonderful friends and experiences. I have loved it all. I am hoping to join a local choir, but I know LSC will be a hard act to follow
I will never be able to express what our LSC nights mean to me, and the amazing effect they have in my life, especially during lockdown. You never fail to give us all a lift. It is very special indeed.Thank you, thank you, thank you a million trillion, quadzillion times over!
